Well-rounded fringe events provided insights in industry trends

Held during the prime sourcing season of the industry, Prolight + Sound Guangzhou 2015 ended on a positive note with 1,186 exhibitors and 63,785 visitors in attendance at the show, which took place from 5 – 8 April at Areas A & B, China Import & Export Fair Complex in Guangzhou.

Visitor numbers have increased by 6.2% and most importantly, number of visits have a significant growth to 224,910 compared to the 2014 edition. Ms Fiona Chiew, Deputy General Manager for Messe Frankfurt (Shanghai) Co Ltd commented on the astonishing achievements at the end of the show. “The success of this year’s show echoed with our earlier decision in moving the show dates. It also reflected that visitors are spending more time at the fair for sourcing, reaffirming the show’s positioning as China’s preeminent sourcing platform.”

Show is China’s upmost trading platform for entertainment industry at peak sourcing season

Over eleven hundred exhibitors were showing their best products and technologies across 12 halls totalling 130,000 sqm and were busy receiving customers throughout the four days. The Audio Brand Name Halls were exceptionally crowded. One of the exhibitors, Mr Josep M. Sans, Market Development Manager for Sae Audio Co Ltd, China was amazed with the result. “Last year our distributor joined the show and was very busy so this year we decided to come to make a better promotion of our brand and new products. People coming to the Audio Brand Name Halls are expecting to find well-established brands and high-end products. They can find them all together in the same place. It’s a good way to engage with quality visitors, so yes it’s perfect for us to be here,” said Mr Sans. The company also benefited from the Outdoor Line Array demonstration. “It gives us a good opportunity to demonstrate our products’ performance and specification to customers. Afterwards we can bring the potential customers to our booth for further discussion,” Mr Sans explained.

Entertainment equipment expert ADJ Group used the show as a product launching platform in China. Mr Wasl Mo, a representative of the company explained, “March to April is an ideal period for sourcing, plus the show is highly recognised in the industry. It becomes our main channel to promote our products to the entertainment and conference sectors. We brought many patented and new products, such as moving head beams, and some of them are newly released in the Chinese market. It’s good to see the buyers’ quality getting better every year.”

The fast-expanding Chinese entertainment market has caught the attention of various leading audio and lighting brands. Harman Professional saw the market potential and decided to demonstrate their recent audio and lighting products in KTV room and bar settings at the booth. Ms Vienne Peng, Marketing & Communication Manager Sales & Advertise of the company said, “China’s entertainment sector is a very promising market for us because people are more receptive to international and mid- to high-end brands. This show can help us access different buyers across the entertainment industry.”

First-time exhibitor TJ Media from Korea also shared the same sentiment. “The KTV market in China is growing in a fast pace and the demand for quality KTV products is high. As the show is the most significant industry event in China, it is a great chance to introduce our brand to China, especially to customers from across Southern China,” Mr Pak Sang Min, General Manager of the company commented.

Suppliers from microphone manufacturing base Enping occupied an entire hall 12.2 at the show and achieved great success in business. The 184 exhibitors in this hall received 2,500 potential orders totalling RMB 1.05 billion over the four-day show. One of the exhibitors, Mr Wu Hong Yun, General Manager, Sandy Audio Equipment Co Ltd, China said, “This show is very ideal for Enping suppliers to promote their brands to the entire industry. First of all, it is the biggest and most leading one in China which attracted many Chinese and international buyers. Also, the show’s location in Guangzhou is convenient for Enping companies because we can take our customers to visit our factories after the show. Prolight + Sound Guangzhou is our most effective promotion channel with greatest return on investment.”

As the major sourcing hub for the industry, Prolight + Sound Guangzhou attracted more than sixty thousands of buyers from China and abroad to look for the latest pro audio and lighting products.

American buyer Mr Mark Bell from Mark Bell Entertainment Inc found stage and event equipment in good value for money. He said, “This is my first time to visit. Now that I’ve been to Prolight + Sound Guangzhou, I won’t go back to the other similar shows. The show is great and impressive. I found some new potential Chinese suppliers here and the product’s quality is good. I want to buy the tools and equipment here instead of going through the middle man in the United States to save some money. I will come back for sure next year.”

Mr Kullar Laiapea, Manager for Lightstream Ltd from Estonia commented, “We are a company specialising in lighting solutions with fibre, LED and laser. This is my fourth year here and I have witnessed growth and expansion of this show.  Every year the product’s quality is just getting better. No doubt this is a satisfying sourcing experience.”

Mr Zhou Wen Dong from Shenzhen Yingliheng Intelligent Technology Co Ltd was happy to find new products at the show. “Since the show is held during the sourcing season it has become one of the must-go industry occasions for me and my peers. Not only can I see many existing partners but also a wide range of new products from leading brands outside China. I have made a number of contacts with overseas suppliers of mixing consoles and loudspeakers at the Audio Brand Name Hall. We will continue exploring further business opportunity after the show,” Mr Zhou said.

Product variety is a major reason for Ms Chen Hung, Sales Manager for Zhaoqing Chungkeda Electronic Co Ltd to visit the fair. “I came to the show to learn more about the pro audio industry and KTV equipment. The entertainment industry in China is getting bigger and our company is interested to look closer for the industry potentials. I am impressed with the wide variety of products, it covers basically everything from software to parts.”

Well-rounded fringe events provided insights in industry trends

A series of fringe events and live demonstrations were held during the show to meet attendees’ sourcing and networking needs. Applications of AV Systems in the Hotel Industry gathered experts to discuss how high-end AV systems bring value, and business opportunities to hotel and MICE industries. Forum organiser Mr Ding Zhigang, Deputy Secretary-General for China Hotel Association spoke about the positive result after the forum. “The show is very influential in the industry and all the best products and technologies can be found here. There’s no better place to hold this event. Nowadays, the hotel industry is asking for better and personalised AV and lighting systems, so this is a good opportunity for the hotel contractors to learn about the new technologies from the leading suppliers, and after the seminar they can also go to the suppliers’ booths to experience the products. I look forward to more cooperation with Prolight + Sound shows in the future.”

Forum audience member, Mr Ben Lee, Director, Engineering, Branding System for Portofino Hotels & Resorts would consider purchasing systems for the hotel after the forum. He said, “The meeting is highly effective since the organiser has selected some brands offering relevant new products for the hotel and convention industry. This activity has offered a valuable chance to get updates of new technologies and find target products in a timely manner.”

The Audio Experts Conference is another event highlight which featured best-known pro audio engineers from China to share their insights in cutting-edge audio technology and developing trends. Conference organiser Mr Gao Yu Chun, China Association of Recording Engineers, explained the reason for holding this conference. “We have seen a growing trend for high-end audio products in China, and in response to this trend, we need to improve the technology and skill in products and productions. This is why we organised today’s conference for audio experts and technicians to discuss advanced and innovative ideas in audio technology.”

Mr Jacky Cheng, Sales Manager for SIWEI Music Engineering Design USA was impressed with the conference’s content. “I have gained a lot of insights from the industry experts. It’s not like you can find similar opportunities like these out there. I have a renewed knowledge in the field and will attend again if I have the chance.”
